House Calls for Sick Pets

Learn About Our Services

We diagnose, monitor, and treat pets with many different issues, from recent injury or illness to long-term or chronic conditions. We are not an emergency service, but we frequently provide same-day urgent visits when appropriate. Our advanced diagnostics include blood and urine testing, as well as in-home ultrasounds when necessary. We provide time-sensitive medications at the appointment and mail most other medications directly to your home. For more in-depth information, check out Housecalls 101: What to Expect and Sick or Injured Pets.

End of Life Care: Hospice and Euthanasia

Learn about Hospice and Euthanasia At Home

Saying goodbye to a beloved pet is never easy. We are here to guide you through this process.

Timing: Knowing when you’ll be ready to say goodbye is often difficult to predict in advance, so we always try to help, even on short notice. However, we invite you to reach out as soon as you consider that euthanasia may be appropriate, so we can guide you and be as prepared as possible when the time comes.

What to expect at the appointment: The appointment will always begin with an evaluation, and the doctor will let you know if there is more we can offer in terms of supportive care and pain management. When euthanasia is the right option, however, the doctor will be ready at the appointment to help your pet pass peacefully. You can find more information about the process on our page dedicated to End of Life Care.

After-care: We’ll help you choose the best way to honor and remember your pet. In most cases, our doctor will take and safeguard your pet’s body after the visit in preparation for cremation. You’ll have the option to choose a memento such as a paw print, and if you want to keep your pet’s ashes after cremation, you’ll select from a number of urns. We will provide more information about these options when we coordinate the appointment.

We can schedule end-of-life care throughout our core and extended service area, which includes most of Boston, Cambridge, South Boston, Dorchester, Somerville, Arlington, Belmont, Brookline, Watertown, Newton, Wellesley, Waltham, Natick, Framingham, Wayland, Weston, Needham, and Dover. If you are outside of these areas but are still generally in the greater Boston area, we may still be able to help and always will do our best to be there for you.

Our euthanasia service includes our standard house call fee, examination, administration of sedatives, and the euthanasia itself. Together, these items total $652.50 in Zone 1. Additional fees apply in Zones 2 through 4 and for urgent work-in appointments, evenings, standard Saturday appointments, and weekend emergency appointments.

Aftercare pricing is in addition to the euthanasia service. Exact pricing depends on your pet’s weight, your selection of group cremation (no return of ashes) or private cremation (with the return of ashes), and your choice of urn and/or other mementos. Aftercare pricing (including a complimentary urn for private cremations) is as follows:

  • Cats and Dogs up to 40 pounds: group $227, private $340.50
  • Dogs 40 to 70 pounds: group $270, private $416
  • Dogs 70 to 100 pounds: group $302.50, private $481
  • Dogs 100 to 150 pounds*: group $340.50, private $545.50
  • Dogs 150+ pounds*: group $378, private $621 *

*Please let us know in advance if your dog is over 100 pounds so we can make appropriate arrangements.

Scheduling and Cancellation Policies

We understand that end-of-life decisions are not easy. While we have a fee for cancellations less than 48 hours before the appointment, we typically waive this fee for euthanasia appointments. However, rather than canceling the euthanasia appointment, we encourage you instead to keep it just as an evaluation, especially if this is our first time meeting your pet. When it’s not yet time for euthanasia, we often can provide guidance, supportive care, and pain medications so your pet can be comfortable for the remaining time you have together.
